Venus and the cinema have a long common history, a legacy that we are proud to continue over time.
So, for the second consecutive year, “Montres Venus S.A.” renewed its partnership with the French Film Festival in Helvetia, in its 8th edition (Bienne – Switzerland, 12 to 16 September 2012).
It was an opportunity for artists and cinephile public to discover our CHROMA watch collection.
Joachim Lafosse
Born in 1975, to Uccle in Belgium, Joachim Lafosse stands out with his short film Tribu that receives a special mention at the Locarno Film Festival in 2001. All his long-films will be selected in the major European festivals. Thus, Locarno welcomes Folie privée in 2004 and Ça rend heureux in 2006. The same year, Nue propriété, starring Isabelle Huppert with Jérémie and Yannick Renier, gathers critical acclaim at the Venice Film Festival. In 2008, Joachim Lafosse presents Elève libre, at Cannes, in the Directors’ Fortnight. The Belgian’s films are annoying but still carrying a profound humanity. After being acclaimed in Cannes, À perdre la raison, it is projected to Biel in the presence of Belgian filmmaker. In this film, Émilie Dequenne won the price of the Best Actress of the Un Certain Regard. Joachim Lafosse continues his exploration of family ties, love and dependence which drive the protagonists in a deadly spiral.
Jean Pierre Ameris
Born in 1961 in Lyon, the French filmmaker Jean-Pierre Améris attends the Institute for Advanced Film Studies in Paris. Graduated, he directed three short films, including Intérim (1988), Grand Prix Festival of Clermont-Ferrand. In 1993, he directed his first long-film, Le bateau de mariage. His second long-film, Les Aveux de l’innocent award at the Cannes Film Festival (1996). After Mauvaises fréquentations (1999) with Lou Doillon, C’est la vie (2000) with Jacques Dutronc, and Poids Léger (2003), Jean-Pierre Améris realize Je m’appelle Elisabeth, introduced in 2006 FFFH. Four years later, he has a great success with Les Emotifs anonymes that describes the meeting of two sickly shy (Isabelle Carré and Benoît Poelvoorde) sharing the same passion for chocolate. Ninth long-film of its author, L’Homme qui rit, starring Gerard Depardieu and Emmanuelle Seigner, is adapted from the novel by Victor Hugo.
Jean Paul Rouve
Born in Dunkirk in 1967, the actor and director Jean-Paul Rouve, attends the theater following the Cours Florent in Paris. He crosses the future members of the band of Robin des Bois who took off in 1996 and it is one of the founding members. Since 1999, they regularly collaborate with Canal + by creating a series of sketches memorable moment as the Norwegian. Meanwhile, Jean-Paul Rouve plays on television in the series Julie Lescaut, then to the cinema, interpreting important roles, especially in movies by Thomas Vincent, Dominique Farrugia and Alain Chabat. In 2003, he won the César for Best Young Promising Actor for his performance in Monsieur Batignole of Mr. Gérard Jugnot. Jean-Paul Rouve multiplies roles in prestigious productions, Polnareff in Podium of Yann Moix, Un long dimanche de fiançailles de Jean-Pierre Jeunet, or father of Edith Piaf in La Môme by Olivier Dahan. In 2007, he was behind the camera and directed his first long-film, Sans arme, ni haine, ni violence where he played the first role. Five years later, Jean-Paul Rouve realized a second one, Quand je serai petit, sharing with Benoît Poelvoorde, the poster at the eighth edition of FFFH.
Louis Do de Lencquesaing
Born in 1963 in Paris, Louis-Do de Lencquesaing following art classes in parallel to his studies in international law. It starts in the theater under the direction of writer and playwright Valère Novarina and working with actors and directors such as renowned Alain Cuny, Luc Bondy or Samy Frey. In his first film, is directed by Arnaud Desplechin (La vie des morts, La Sentinelle), Claude Chabrol (Madame Bovary) and Jean-Luc Godard (Hélas pour moi). He has important roles in films such as À vendre by Laetitia Masson, Les destinées sentimentales by Olivier Assayas and Caché by Michael Haneke. His interpretation of the deceased producer Humbert Balsan in Le père de mes enfants (2009) by Mia Hansen-Løve, it was great . While pursuing an acting career – Le mariage à trois by Jacques Doillon, Polisse by Maïwenn, L’Apollonide by Bertrand Bonello, Paris-Manhattan by Sophie Lellouche, Superstar de Xavier Giannoli – Louis-Do de Lencquesaing directed three short-films a few years apart. He presents at the FFFH, his first long-film, selected by the Critics’ Week at Cannes. With precision and sensitivity captures the passionate encounter between a writer (he plays himself) and his editor.
Olivier Assayas
Born in 1955 in Paris, Olivier Assayas studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts and literature at the Sorbonne. Graphic designer and illustrator, lover of Asian cinema, he published in 1980 film critics for “Cahiers du Cinema”. After completing four short films, Olivier Assayas co-wrote the screenplay of Rendez-vous (1985) by André Téchiné. The following year, he directed his first long-film that received the Prize of the International Critics at Venice Film Festival. He began to develop a work unpredictable that made him one of the “key” filmmakers of our time. Among the fifteen long films he has made to date, shines particularly his trilogy consisting of Demonlover (2002), Clean (2004), starring Maggie Cheung (Best Actress Award at Cannes the same year), and Boarding Gate (2007). In 2010, Olivier Assayas makes a fresco over five hours film for the cinema and television: Carlos traces the career of terrorist Ilich Ramírez Sánchez, and Edgar Ramirez, his lead actor, earned the César for Most Promising male. Presented in competition at Venice Après mai (2012) revives the intimacy of L’enfant de l’hiver (1989), Paris s’éveille (Prix Jean Vigo 1992) and L’Eau froide (1994).
